Rodeos
Sir, —Bull - riding, saddle bronc and bare-back riding, steer wrestling and calf roping. What a glorious outing for the animals and if only they could speak what appreciation they would show for being able to help collect $lOOO for the Games! So far the animal contribution has been frog-jumping and rodeo, so perhaps they would not object to a good old Spanish bull ring and a few gamecock fights. The Government has repeatedly been approached by different societies praying that rodeos be prohibited, but any petition drawing attention to animal cruelty gets a cold reception. Who worries? Animal exploitation is a gold mine and any attempt to improve animal welfare is frowned upon.—Yours, etc, R. J. GLEN. March 6, 1972.
