Opera at Ilam
The Brecht-Weill opera, "Songspiel Mahagonny,” written in 1927, will have what is thought to be its first New Zealand performance in Christchurch tomorrow.
It is being produced by Reg Graham for the music department of the secondary division of the Christchurch Teachers' College at Ham.
The musical director is Guy Jansen, and the cast includes Judy Bellingham and Jean Cumming. A short supporting programme will precede the opera. This will feature Guy Donaldson (piano), playing two twentieth-century works; the secondary division Madrigal Singers; and a piece of electronic music composed by three student teachers. The season will end on Friday.
