The executive director of Downstage, Mr Harry Seresin, is to give up full-time direction of the theatre. Miss Sunny Amey, at present artistic director, will take over the post. With the three founding artists, Martyn Sanderson, Tim Elliott and Peter Bland. Mr Seresin launched ’he Downstage Theatre Company in Wellington in 1964. He gave his full-time service to Downstage free of charge for the first half of the ensuing seven years, and will now devote himself to other business ventures. Commenting on Downstage’s success, Mr Seresin said today it was a result of a combination of artistic principle and hard-headed economics.
