SUBURBAN CRICKET

At the end of round four, Merivale-Papanui retained its leed although it only gained two points in its game against Sumner, which was drawn. Best performances in this game were A. Fleete (MerivalePapanuii, 53 not out and T. Simeonids (Sumner), 50 not out. Sumner gained three bonus points. The Heathcote v. Waltham game also resulted in a draw, Waltham gaining four bonus points and Heathcote two. Requiring 151 runs in 90 minutes, Heathcote at stumps had tost eight wickets for 139, thus missing outright victory by 11 runs. For Heathcote R. Pettit batted well for 47. At Denton Oval, Burnside dismissed Hornby in its second innings for only 79 and required 116 in 110 minutes for the outright win. At stumps it had lost nine wickets for 73. Bowling for Burnside, R. Wright took four for eight and D. McNaughton five for 42. Bonus points gained were Hornby eight and Burnside seven. Points at the end of round four are Merivale-Papanui 39, Sumner 34, Hornby 29.
