SYDNEY. Two old stagers, both bred In New Zealand, ran first and second in the last race at Warwic Farm on Saturday to give some lucky punters a big qulnella pay-out.

Jay Ay (33 to 1) and Matuku Prince (200 to 1) returned a qulnella dividend of $469.20 for 50 cents in the Leumeah Handicap (Im).

Jay Ay. an eight-year-old by Macquarid out tof Passive, put In a withering run in the straight to beat the six-year-old Matuku Prince (MessmateCloudlet) by three-quarters of a length. Jay Ay, a half-brother to champion racehorse and sire Soblg, won the N.Z. St Leger at Trentham in 1967 but has never lived up to that promise.

He has been racing without much success in Australia for several seasons and Saturday’s win was his first for 18 months.
