Cricket clinic “success”

The national cricket clinic in Christchurch at the beginning of this month was "generally accounted a success," Mr J. G. Leggat, the chairman, told the Cricket Council’s board of control on Saturday. Mr Leggat paid particular tribute to the council secretary (Mr R. G. Knowles) and New Zealand captain, G. T. Dowling, for their organisation and work, and said the Christchurch members of the clinic, the Canterbury Cricket Association and council executive, had made their contributions.

As far as continuance of the clinics was concerned, Mr Leggat said he thought the board should have clinics "directed to a purpose.” Mr G. C. Burgess suggested the Rothman’s coaching committee could be asked if it was willing to include clinics in its responsibilities. An invitation for the New Zealand side touring the West Indies to visit Bermuda was considered In committee. “The matter of terms and extra time Involved have to be discussed,” Mr Leggat announced. The board favoured a one-day "warm-up” game in Australia before the New Zealand eleven’s semi-final match against Queensland or Victoria in the Coca Cola knock-out competition on February 4.
