Dowling captain
®- T - Dowling will captain **•* Zealand cricket team In the West Indies this season. The Cricket Council's board of control made the appointment on Saturday after a request from the national selectors that the captain be named as early as possible.
Captain of New Zealand since 1967-61, Dowling has led the team in 17 tests against four overseas countries, and on three tours: 19*9 to England, India and Pakistan, and in 1969-70 and again last season In Australia.
In terms of test victories, ho is New Zealand's most successful captain, with wins against India (1967-6 and 1969), West Indies (1968-9) and Pakistan (1969). He also led Centerbury to an historic win against the 1966-67 Australians.
The vice-captain and tour selectors will be chosen after the team is selected, on January I*.
