Wage talks adjourned
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 9. Wage negotiations for motor-assembly workers in Auckland, Thames, and Nelson were adjourned until next month in Wellington today. The secretary of the New Zealand Engineers’ and Related Trades Union (Mr P. G. Allen) said tonight that complications over the pending resumption of negotiations for metal trades workers had arisen.
The coach workers’ award is related to the metal trades award. There is also a complication associated with the agreement made earlier this year with the Hutt Valley assembly plants. That agreement included a clause which enabled the Hutt Valley workers to receive any increase in pay negotiated by an associated union.
This had been made by the Federation of Labour, and his union was to discuss the situation with the F.O.L. before the resumption of negotiations on October 6, Mr Allen said.
