British lapse alleged

LANCASTER, Sept. 17. Britain no longer leads the world in beef cattle breeding, having been slow to adopt scientific' methods, a Scottish Milk. Marketing Board veterinary surgeon told the British Veterinary Association’s annual conference at Lancaster University today. “Commercial cattle raisers require, and are demanding, more factual information, and it is in this regard, especially in beef breeding, that this country has failed to make the progress it might have done, said Mr J. M. Swanne, who admitted that considerable advances had been made in breeding dairy cattle. Naval surveillance The Russian Navy nuclear force that anchored on Saturday in the Gulf of Alaska headed out towards the open sea yesterday, shadowed by four Canadian warships. The Soviet Union force, which sailed a few weeks ago from eastern ports in Russia, con-, sists of a guided-missile cruiser, two destroyers and a nuclear submarine.—Victoria, British Columbia, Sept. 7.
