Abortion law proposal
(N.Z.P A.-Reuter—Copyright) ' BONN, Sept. 7.
The West German Government has proposed an abortion reform law which would permit termination of pregnancies in hardship cases. Abortions are forbidden under the present law, except in cases to save the life of a mother. The new draft law also permits abortion in cases of rape, and if there is an indication that a child will be deformed.
As an obvious compromise to groups for and against abortion reform, the measure will permit termination of pregnancies in cases where social circumstances are relevant to health. A spokesman for the Department of Justice said that this would include psychological grounds.
