Murder charge
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) ADELAIDE, Sept 7.
A 40-year-old labourer was charged in Adelaide Magistrate’s Court today with the murder of his wife.
The charge comes after the alleged slaying of 10 persons, including eight children at Hope Forest, about 35 miles south of Adelaide yesterday. Clifford Cecil Batholomew, of suburban Meadows, was charged with the murder of Heather Alice Bartholomew, aged 40. The Assistant Police Prosecutor, Mr J. Dunsmore, said that the dead woman was Batholomew’s wife, and she and seven children of the family, and her sister, a Mrs Meane, and 16-months-old son, Daniel, lived in a house at Hope Forest.
Mr Dunsmore said that Bartholomew has been living apart from his wife since August 25.
