‘Press’ soccer final

The final of “The Press” junior penalty-taking competition will be held at half-time in the Rothmans National Soccer League fixture at English Park today. The three finalists are Tony Steer (Christchurch 8.H.5.), Richard Wilson (Cashmere H.S.), and Gary Wall (New Brighton). They will be competing for the cup presented by “The Press,” which the winner will hold for a year, and a medallion given by Christchurch United, which the winner will retain.

Each finalist will have six penalty kicks. In goal will be the former Canterbury representative, W. Weir (Technical). The two trophies won by Canterbury teams this season, the under 12s in the North Island tournament and the under 18s in the National Youth Cup, will also be on show at English Park today. Members of the two teams will do a lap of honour just before the 2.45 p.m. start of the national league game between Christchurch United and Mount Wellington.
