Flood work at Brighton

Work already done had in some degree contributed to alleviation of flooding in Brighton Terrace and Evans Street, New Brighton, said the City Engineer (Mr P. G. Scoular) yesterday. He was commenting on a petition to the City Council by more than 20 residents of the area seeking relief from flooding, as reported in “The Press” yesterday. “The whole area is under investigation by the City Council and the Drainage Board,” Mr Scoular said. “The petition, only just received by the council, has been referred to the appropriate committee. “Much of the trouble is caused by the area being below high tide level, with consequent flooding because of abnormal tides,” he said.
