Watch-shaped stamps
Two stamps recently issued by Tonga are the first watch-shaped stamps produced. Their shape, and their slogan, “The Friendly Isles Where Time Begins.” emphasise Tonga’s distinction as the only country in the world that is 13 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time. Issued in two denominations, 14 seniti and 21 seniti, the stamps will form part of the airmail series now in use in Tonga. The stamps’ colours are metallic gold, brown, grey, and green. At the foot of the stamps is a drawing of “Ha Amongo,” a famous prehistoric monument once used by Tongans to determine accurately the longest and shor test days of the year.
