(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Cupyrmtat TOKYO, August 31. At least 34 people were reported dead or missing today as Typhoon Trix headed towards Tokyo after carving a trail of destruction through southern and western Japan. Police said 26 people were known to have died and eight were still missing after 24 slides caused by one of the worst typhoons to lash Japan for some time. The typhoon was expected to hit Tokyo sometime this evening, although it had already started to lose some of its fury. Winds had dropped from 80 to 55 miles an hour. Torrential rain running ahead of the typhoon today paralysed rail and air traffic ' in and out of the capital and damaged communications.
