Textbook grant up

The Minister of Education (Mr Taiboys) today announced a 22 per cent increase in the grant for free textbooks. He was speaking at the biennial conference of the Secondary School Boards’l Association in Blenheim. Rising costs of textbooks overseas, and the need for more advanced texts for the greater number of senior pupils who were staying on at school, were factors affecting the Government’s decision, Mr Taiboys said.
