Repatriated
East Berlin border guards have returned to the West a West Berliner, aged 22, and an urn containing the ashes of his friend, who was shot dead while trying to cross with him into East Berlin. Bernd Langer, who was handed over to West Berlin guards, was himself shot in the arm and thigh when he and Werner Kuehl, aged 22, tried to cross the closelyguarded border on July 24. Kuehl died from his injuries. —West Berlin, September 1.
