Domestic pollution

Sir,—At last there has been some discussion of domestic pollution in the women’s news; it is disappointing that its implications were not more specific. There is so very much more we could all do about the problems we create if only we had the information. Women, many o f whom are concerned about the environment, form a major buying bloc for many commodities and could easily apply pressure on the manufacturers if they only knew what was needed. If they refused to buy anything bitt bio-degradable detergents, then that is what they would ’ get If they insisted on paper , rather than plastic wrappings, i and on returnable containers, I then they would get these as well. The importance of an i informed public cannot be over-emphasised for, as long as advertisers play the time i we dance to, we will pirouette till our pockets are empty and our world a desolation.—Yours, etc., JANET R. HOLM.
