TRAVERSE PROGRESS
I Bad weather encountered B Graeme Dingle and Jill H Tremain moved 500 ft further K up the Spence Glacier yesterH day, to an altitude of about * 5000 ft, but because of bad ■ weather it is unlikely that I they will climb any further ■ today. The climbers are ■ making a winter traverse of ■ the Southern Alps. ■ The pair might make a ■ small advance up the glacier ■ today but the forecast H weather is not suitable for ■ high climbing. ■ A billy air-dropped yester- ■ day to the climbers to refl place one lost in the Lands- ■ borough River broke when it ■ hit the ground. It was no ■ setback, however, as the ■ original billy had earlier been H recovered from a pool in the B river. Snow shoes were infl eluded in the air-drop.
