Musical at Rangiora
The Rangiora Musical Society’s production of “Merry Widow” will begin a season of three nights in the Rangiora Town Hall next Monday. Diane Purkis (Femside) is the widow, and other leading parts are taken by Lynn McCann (Rangiora), Sam Brown (Belfast), John Clark (Rangiora) and Gilbert Wiberg (Christchurch).
The chorus of 30 contains more balance than that in last year’s production, “The Mikado,” especially in the men’s section. Scenery has been hired from the Tinwald and Fairlie societies. The musical director is C. Ward (Kaiapoi) and producer N. Robinson (Oxford). The choreographer is Mrs R. Botting, and five pupils from her ballet school in Kaiapoi will take part. The music will be supplied by seven members of the Hagley Orchestra from Christchurch, accompanied by Mrs B. Hassall (Belfast).
