GERMAN OPERA TO TOUR
By arrangement between the Chamber Music Federation and the New Zealand Ballet and Opera Trust, the German Touring Opera Company will present Carl Orff’s opera “die Kluge (the Wise Woman)” in Christchurch on September 27 and 28.
Based on a fable known in many cultures and languages, the opera has a cast of nine (including one woman) and has been specially arranged by Orff for piano, percussion and double-bass. The production will be prefaced by a 20-mlnute Illustrated talk by the cast. The German Touring Opera Company was founded in 1958 by Hans Schlote, as a result of the efforts of a large number of cultural societies interested in the future of opera. It has given more than 500 performances in the last 13 years.
