LONDON. The British Boxing Board of Control said yesterday it would continue to recognise the Scot, K. Buchanan, as the world lightweight champion, pending its own investigation into the World Boxing Council’s decision to strip Buchanan of the title.
The World Boxing Council, at its meeting in Mexico City three weeks ago, stripped Buchanan of the title for failing to defend it against P. Carrasco, of Spain. But yesterday the British board gave Buchanan permission to fight Ismael Laguna, of Panama, in the United States in September.
Mr E. Thomas, Buchanan’s manager said: “I think the board has done the right thing. I signed a contract last March to fight Ismael Laguna, in New York in July, and, hut for Buch-; anan’s injury to his ear. and ♦hen his cut eye, he would have fouPhf b’m in Julv and then defended the title against Carrasco. “We are nrepared to meet Carrasco if the ’ernis are right,” Mr Thomas added.
