N.Z. bridge teams
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. A Waikato pair, W. J. Haughie and R. J. Scott, from Hamilton, will represent New Zealand for the first time in the open section of the annual Far East contract bridge championships which will be played this year in Melbourne in November.
Two former New Zealand representatives—Mrs H. K. Palmer and Mrs W. J. Hutchison, from Wellington—will play in the women’s team. They replace Mrs H. O. Taylor, of Auckland, who is not available for the Melbourne trip, and her regular partner in the national women’s team, Mrs Z. Morris, of Tokoroa.
Mr L. M. Sclmeidman, the chairman of the management committee of the New Zealand Contract Bridge Association, announced the following teams after a committee meeting in Wellington last evening:— Open.—F- P- S. Lu (Dunedin) and J. R. Wignail (Christchurch), B. C. Bell and R. Evans (Auckland), W. J. Haughie and R. J. Scott (Hamilton). Non-playing captain, R. R. Hudson (Dunedin).
Women.—Mrs V. Bell and Mrs P. J. Oakley (Christchurch), Miss A. R. Hollis and Mrs J. R. Hutchinson (Auckland). Mrs H. K. Palmer and Mrs W J. Hutchison (Wellington). Nonplaying captain, L. M. Schneidman (Wellington).
