Aid for Pakistan
Sir,—Yesterday’s issue has a paragraph to inform us that China has just given a large sum of money for relief in Pakistan. Not mentioned is that a few days ago China has given 500,000 yuan, equivalent to about SNZISO,OOO, to earthquake relief in Turkey. China is helping Tanzania to build a railway, and cotton mills have been given to other countries. These do not sound
like the actions of a poor and dependent country. Let India, with half the population of China, learn from the example of China. A start in nationalising the land would be a good idea. Then it might copy the Chinese by getting ria of landlords and imperialists completely.—Yours, etc., P.J.A June 18, 1971.
