The main teaching responsibility will be in the preliminary year, a pre-matricula-tion year conducted by the University. Previous teaching experience desirable. Applicants must be qualified in experimental plant taxonomy, plant evolution, plant morphology, development or adaption. Preference will be given to a person with training in genetics or physiology who is interested in one of these fields and is capable of teaching plant morphology at various levels of the degree course. The salary scales are as follows: Lecturer Grade II: $A6318-348 x 3-$A7362. Lecturer Grade I: $A7710-348 x 2-354 x l-$A8760. The appointment will be for a period of two years but consideration will be given to extending it to a third year if the Fellows programme of work warrants it. The salary will be fixed, according to qualifications and experience, at a suitable figure up to $6OOO per annum. Approved travelling expenses to and from Dunedin will be provided. The exact salary for 1972 has still to be determined but in the past the salary rate has been about the same order as that for medical graduates in their third year in the Hospital Service. These posts provide an excellent opportunity for candidates for the R.A.C.S. Primary Examination to benefit to the full from the course in the Basic Medical Sciences organised by the Dunedin Education Committee. R.A.C.S. (Five out of six of the holders of these posts in 1970 have now completed the Primary.) It is also becoming clear that for those who intend to specialise in Surgery under the projected new training scheme of the R.A.C.S., a year spent as a Demonstrator in Anatomy would still provide distinct vocational and scientific advantages less confined by examination requirements.
