SNOW CHICK MAKES AMENDS
Snow Chick, which finished i lest at the Cheviot meeting at her previous start, had no trouble justifying favouritism in the First Gilmer Handicap. : She took the lead from Spot , Cash inside the last three I furlongs and won easily by four lengths from the solid j finisher. Gay Sequin, with a . nose to Kaotinka, a nose to Spot Cash, and half a length to Likely Lad. Snow Chick is a four-year-old i mare by Fallacy from Snowline., the winner of the main event | later in the night. Iceberg completed the oncourse double when she came with a great run from far back to catch the pacemaker, Belle Song, and beat her by threequarters of a length, going away. In the Golden Eagle Handicap. These two had the finish to• themselves. Grizzly Bear cross- ’ Ing the line in a gallop three ; lengths away, a neck in front i of Able Adios. The third and ;
fourth placings were subsequently reversed. The hot favourite, Tawera, driven by D. J. Townley, broke hopelessly and finished fifteenth. Sudden, a four-year-old gelding by Young Charles from Mighty Imp, trained at Ashburton by his part-owner, F. A. Skates, showed ability- above average when he won the Kings Handicap. Sudden was well back on the Inside for most of the way but he moved up sharply near the three furlongs and had the result in safe keeping soon after. Blue Spark, blocked on the inner till late in the race, came home well for second but he was two lengths and a half from the winner. Real Garrison fought on for third, clear of Russley John, which received the run of the race. Then came Bay Star and Floral Charm. The second favourite. Totara Jack, was in the open for a mile but soon dropped right away.
