Senior cricket averages

V. Pollard, the East Christ-church-Shirley all-rounder and test player, had the very notable double of more than 500 runs and 50 wickets in senior competition matches this season. This very rare double was

last performed in the 1956-57 season by A. R. Mac Gibbon (Old Collegians), who also did it two seasons previously. W. A. Thomson (Sydenham), the leading batsman all season, clung to his position at the top of the aggregates, in spite of a duck in his final

innings. He made 12 runs more than the St Albans captain, J. >M. Ruston. The older of the brothers, K. Thomson, had the best average. P. A. Sharp (West Christ-church-University) not only took the most wickets, but

was also second in the averages to his team-mate, D. G. TriSt. J. W. Kiddey (Riccarton), one of four bowlers to take 50 wickets or more—B. C. Irving (Lancaster Park) was the other—was third in the averages. The leading figures are:—
