Rhodesia is invited

Rhodesia has been officially invited to compete in the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich despite not taking part in the last Olympics in Mexico, the secretary-general of the Rhodesia National Olympic Committee (Mr O. Plaskitt) announced. Mr Plaskitt was speaking after returning here from a three-day visit to Munich where he met members of the Olympic organising committee.
He said he had brought Rhodesia’s official invitation to the Games back with him. Rhodesia did not receive an invitation to the Mexico Olympics in 1968 and dropped plans to. send a team there saying it was the victim of “enforced exclusion.”

Sweden beat the United States* 4-3, to fall in behind the Russians at the top of the table. Lifting record.—-V. Alexejev (U.S.S.R.) broke his thirtieth super heavy-weight world weight-lifting record with a heave of 223 kilograms (491.63 pounds) in the press at an exhibition contest in Vienna.
