NO PRICE FREEZE
There would be no price freeze at I.G.A. Premier Food stores or Super Value Supermarkets, said the general manager of Grocers United Stores, Ltd (Mr E. G. Stonestreet), yesterday. “Such a move at this stage would not, in our view, give any benefit or advantage to the public or our customers. This opinion has already been stated by three or four other commentators in recent news items, and we concur with it. “We will, however, continue to promote and indeed extend our present programme of advertising and offering to the public each and every week a comprehensive range of groceries, meat, delicatessen items and fresh produce at the lowest possible prices available—in many cases even at prices lower than the wholesale cost price to the retailer. “Furthermore we will con-, tinue to merchandise our goods only from clean, hygienic, modern and up-to-date premises designed for maximum customer comfort and convenience. “We wish our competitors the very best of good luck with new found, free-public-ity-getting gimmick, but it is not for us,” said Mr Stonestreet.
