End to refunds of bus fees
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Mar. 23. The scheme for refunding urban passenger transport concerns their heavy traffic licence fees would be discontinued from the end of this month, said the Minister of Transport (Mr Gordon) in Parliament today. The Minister said local authorities had no obligation under the Local Authorities (Petroleum Tax) Act to compensate either for the phasing out of these refunds or for the extra tax private urban passenger transport companies would be required to pay under this act. “However, local authorities may, at their own discretion, make compensating grants to private operators,” he said.
