Fish imports to be discussed
(N.Z. Press Association) NELSON, March 24. The Minister of Customs (Mr Adams-Schneider) has agreed to meet principals of Wonder Foods, Ltd, a Nelson fish processing firm, on April 1. Last week Mr C. C. Hufflett, the general manager of the company objected strongly to the Government’s decision to remove all import controls on prepared fish products without increasing the tariff. This move, he said, would allow the importaton of heavily subsidised fish fingers from Europe in direct competition with the non-subsidised New Zealand product, for which markets were just being established.
