Canoe lost in Avon race
Stone-throwing bullies who attacked a young contestant in the annual Avon River Race last Saturday might hold the key to the Case of the Missing Canoe. The boy, Raymond Stewart, of Timaru, set off with his rivals In the Junior section at 1 p.m., paddling a canoe borrowed from the Timaru Canoe Club. He arrived at the Pleasant Point Yacht Club rooms at 4.30 pun.—on foot. He had become scared when boys on the bank threw atones at him, and abandoned the canoe ano paddle.
