League selection panel reduced

The composition of the Canterbury Rugby league senior selection panel will be reduced from three members to two for the 1971 season.

A remit to this effect, submitted by the Hornby club, was carried by 16 Votes to nine at the code’s annual general meeting last evening. The remit stipulated that one selector be responsible for the backs and the other for the forwards. They are to be appointed by the board of control from nominations forwardsed by clubs. In recent years it has been mandatory that the convener of the panel be a- board member. Under the new regulation the board will choose one of the two selectors as the team’s coach. The only other remit before the meeting, that any person elected to the board must forfeit any active

administrative or playing position within a club, was also passed, by 18 votes to seven. Officials Messrs W. L. Prendergast and F. Duane were elected as board members to replace Messrs E. Butts and L. R. Huston, neither of whom sought re-election. Officers elected ware:— Patron, Mr L. G. Amoe; vicenatron, Mr L. A. Stuart; president, Mr H. A. King: vice-presi-dents, Messrs R. K. Andrews, E. G. Blazey, J. Lloyd, D. L. Woolford; secretary-manager, Mr D. G. Gaynor; board of control, Messrs A. J. Atkinson, D. C. Wilson, W. A. Whitehesd, J. Andsrson, M. R. Clinton, W. L. Prendergast, F. Duane. Opening day. Compstition matches will begin on April 17.
