FREIGHT RISE
Chathams cargo (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 24. The Holm Shipping Company will increase its freight rates on its New Caledonia and Chatham Island services on April 5. In a circular to customers, the company said that its latest financial results indicated substantial losses on these trades which the company was unable to absorb. The increases will average about $5 a ton of general cargo to and from the Chatham Islands, and $4 a ton on New Caledonian freight.
