Prisoner cuts arm
(N.Z. Pros Association) AUCKLAND, Mar. 24. A prisoner, one of the 83 involved in the riot at Mount Eden Prison on Saturday night, was treated at Auckland Hospital today for a cut to his arm. He was then returned to the prison. The prison superintendent (Mr J. Hobson) later declined to give the man’s name, but said the man had a history of psychiatric disorder. Prisoners who were appearing before a magistrate at a closed-doors hearing at the prison had been issued with new shaving gear. “This man took a razor blade from his gear and slashed his arm with it,” said Mr Hobson. “He was in his cell at the time and a warder was close at hand.”
