Housing for Games
Christchurch Girls’ High School had been asked by the Commonwealth Games Committee if the school hostel, Acland House, would accommodate visitors to the 1974 Commonwealth Games, said the headmistress (Miss J. D. Prisk) at a meeting of the school board of governors.
The committee was conducting a survey to find what accommodation would be available for an expected 10,000 Games visitors.
Schools with boarding facilities had high priority, as motels and hotels in the city could not cope with the number, she said.
