Demerit system figures
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 22. Since the demerit points system for traffic offences was introduced in 1967, 3057 people have been warned, 1149 have been interviewed by senior traffic officers, and 253 drivers have had their licences suspended 73 for six months and 180 for three months.
These figures were released today by the Minister of Transport (Mr Gordon) and cover from April 1, 1967, to February 28, 1971. Drivers under 26 figure most prominently in the statistics.
