Park may be prospected

(N.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Mar 22. An Australian company is seeking mineral prospecting warrants for an area which includes part of the Egmont National Park. The company, Bligh Oil and Minerals N.L., has made two applications to prospect for copper, lead, zinc, nickel, barium, mercury, arsonic, antimony, iron, titanium, manganese and sulphur. The first application is in the Kaitake Range and part of the surrounding area of freehold land. The second application extends from Pukeiti to the summit of the Pouakai

Range. The district administration officer for the Lands and Survey Department (Mr L. T. Bluett) said in New Plymouth that the applications would be considered on June 23 by the Commissioner of Crown Lands (Mr R. M. Velvin). Should a prospecting warrant be granted in this case, very stringent conditions would be imposed as to the method of prospecting in a national park, Mr Bluett said.
