Von Ruden wins
ffl.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) ADELAIDE. The American middle-dis-tance runner, T. von Ruden breasted the tape inches ahead of C. Fisher (Australia) to win the 1000 metres invitation race at the Olympic sports field, Adelaide. Both men were given the identical time of 2min 21.3 sec.
Fisher, the Australian 1500 metres champion, led the field until von Ruden passed him 30 metres from the finish. The world indoor two miles record-holder, K. O’Brien was beaten at the same meeting by fellow-Australian, A. Benson, over the distance. Benson was three yards and 1.5 seconds ahead of O’Brien, finishing in 7min 32.6 sec.
