Batsmen on top at Elmwood

A perfect wicket on Elmwood Park No. 2 enabled the batsmen of both teams to dominate play between Old CoUeglans and East Christchurch-Shirtey. East-Shirley batted first after winning the toss and it went to lunch at 129 for four after a solid innings by J W. Grocott of 69, which Included 11 fours. After lunch the score was pushed along by V. Pollard and A. L. Andrew In a ehase for P«rformance _polnte. N. G. Clark, who had gained a minor success in the morning play by taking two wickets with three balls, was really savaged by these two batsmen, and after being hit for 18 from one over was withdrawn from the attack.
