TV manners

Sir,—lt is amazing the number of individuals who invite people to their homes for the evening and have the TV set going when the visitors arrive and keep the set on until twelve o'clock. I feel that sort of behaviour is an insult to my intelligence, but most people prefer to watch the TV programme and carry on some sort of conversation while the programme is on. Of course, if you happen to be a follower of “Coronation Street,” it is quite O.K. to watch that, but if people have any consideration for their visitors, I think the TV set should be turned off for the rest of the evening.—Yours, etc., GOOD MANNERS.
