E.E.C. talks of curbs (N Z. Press Assn—Copyright) MELBOURNE, February 5. The vice-president of the European Commission (Dr Sicco Mansholt), has said in London that markets in the European Economic Community were overrun with apples, according to the Australian Apple and Pear Board. He was quoted as saying that the only way to solve the problem was by reducing production, increasing the grubbing grant and possibly licensing planting. He said also that imports from third countries could have to be reduced. Dr Mansholt has special responsibility for agriculture on the European Commission; he was in London to speak with the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Prior), and officials from agricultural organisations. He did not give great hope that the problem would be solved by 1973, when Britain 1 is due to join the E.E.C.
