Kowai club may close
The Kowai Athletic Sports Club—for at least a half-cen-tury the sponsor of the annual Easter sports meeting at Sefton—may go into recess. The club’s future will be discussed at the annual meeting tomorrow evening. The club was functioning before the First World War, according to Mr E. C. Topp, one of the oldest surviving members. After being in recess for a time during the war, it was revived and has been active ever since. “And I think that it’s still one of the most valued picnic gatherings. It’s a family affair, and while attendances have dropped off now and then, it’s still very poplar,” said Mr Topp. However, lack of support locally in helping to arrange the annual sports meeting has resulted in the work falling to a few persons, some of whom think that the club should close if more help is not forthcoming. “This matter has been brought up and is something
that has to be thrashed out," said the club’s president (Mr C. G. Wheeler).
