CHILDREN’S WELFARE

Trans-Tasman talks A conference to co-ordin-ate statistical information of New Zealand and Australia in child welfare will be held in Sydney next week. New Zealand will be represented by Miss J. Fleming, senior research officer for the head office of the Child Welfare Division of the Department of Education in Wellington. At present both Australia and New Zealand child welfare agencies gather a large volume of information. However, comparative studies of these are not yet possible because of the differing methods used in each country to collate data. The conference of a week will allow an approach to each country’s problems of child welfare to be planned, particularly in illegitimacy and delinquency. A culmination of five years of preparatory work, the conference will also bring more frequent exchanges of research information between Australia and New Zealand.
