1000 metres for women
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) GOSFORD (England). Margaret Beacham, a 23-year-old English secretary, set a women’s 1000-metres indoor record today when she clocked 2min 46.55ec for the distance. The second-placed Noreen Braithwaite also broke the previous best time for the distance of 2min 47sec held by Vera Dovgaleva, of the Soviet Union. The Olympic 1500 metres gold medallist, K. Keino, of Kenya, running for the first time since he arrived in Britain three months ago for a physical education course, won the 3000 metres in 7min 58.6 sec.
