Computer order
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 22. The New Zealand Government has ordered a series of I.C.L. computers which will form one of the major single computing networks in the world. The I.C.L. 7020 terminal systems will give nine individual users, scattered round the country, simultaneous use of one of the most powerful computers in New Zealand. The users will be linked to Wellington by normal telephone lines. Students- at Auckland, Wellington, Petone, and Christchurch Technical Institutes will work the computer. Other users will be the Forest Research Institute in Rotorua, the Ruakura Animal Research Centre in Hamilton, the Forestry Department, the Meteorological Office, and the Department of Agriculture, Wellington.
