Olympic find?
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, The Auckland roadwalking champion, K. Taylor (Manurewa), established himself as a fine Olympic prospMt by walking the fastest 1590 metres ever in New Zealand at Mount Smart on Saturday night to win from scratch in smin 59.25ec. The previous record was 6min 27sec, by D. McNab, years ago. Taylor’s time is equivalent to 6min 24sec for one mile, and this also would be the fastest walked over a mile by a New Zealander. Taylor, a short, strong, 20-year-old, has earned piacings In New Zealand road-walking championships in the last two seasons, and this season, on a far tougher training schedule, is in outstanding form.
