Sex allegations denied

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, November 22. Two Wellington secondary school principals tonight disagreed with allegations that particpation in alcohol, drugs and sex by pupils was causing schools to abandon overnight athletic trips.

The allegations made at the recent annual meeting of the Amateur Athletic Association, were dismissed today by the principal of Naenae College (Mr D. E. Wood) as “a lot of hearsay.” Mr Wood said he was surprised at the comments because the question of school trips was not of direct interest to the' association. A West Coast North Island association delegate (Mr A. P. Eustace) had told the national body’s meeting that drink and parties, including drugs, had caused trouble for some high schools on athletic trips. It was not sb bad at singlesex schools- but co-educa-tional schools definitely had trouble, he said. The principal of Tawa College (Mr E. M. P. Flaws) said

t tonight he disagreed with the f comments of Mr Eustace. They cast a slur on youth that was unwarranted. Mr Raws said that for the ’ f last two years Tawa College . had successfully run mixed , trips for 16, 17 and 18 yearold students. • One was a geographic trip “ ■ to Fiji lasting three weeks, I and others included week-end t sporting trips.
