They are expected to leave for Auckland early in January to prepare for the championships, and to compete in local meetings. Work has been arranged for them in Auckland. Kina is Fiji’s discus champion and a leading shot-put-ter. Yavala holds the allcomers’ 400-metres record and has beaten his country man, the Commonwealth Games bronze medallist, Saimoni Tamani, over the distance.
