Oil well Abandoned
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 20. The chairman of directors of BP, Shell, Todd (Canterbury) Services, Ltd, (Mr A. H. Barfan) announced today that Endeavour No. 1, off Oamaru, would be abandoned. Driling would stop at about 9000 ft in basement within the next 24 hours. No significant indications of hydrocarbons were encountered, Mr Barran said. A wire logging programe will be carried out to help evaluate results from drilling. The cost of the well will be more than s2m, and because of the disappointing results, there were, no plans for more driling at this time in the company’s off-shore Canterbury licence area. The Sedco rig would be released.
